About
Joseph Sarafian, AIA is co-founder and CEO of Form Found Design, an LA-based studio that uses industrial robots to cast previously impossible concrete structures. His work has been featured in Time Magazine, Business Insider, Designboom, Dezeen, and in multiple conference journals. Along with partner Ron Culver, FFD completed the MARS Pavilion in Palm Springs. Commissioned by Amazon, this canopy is the first robotically-cast structure in California and represents a new construction method in the industry. Prior to graduate school at UCLA, Joseph worked for three years at Synthesis Design + Architecture, traveling to China and Thailand to support SDA’s growing portfolio of international projects including the Volvo Pavilion (Time Magazine top 25 inventions of 2013) and the Groove shopping center in Bangkok. Joseph also designed the City of Rayong’s first built, parametrically modeled façade (Central Plaza Rayong) among other built work. Joseph received his Bachelors of Architecture Degree from the University of Southern California earning the Raymond S. Kennedy award for creative innovation and being distinguished as a University-wide “Global Scholar” for his study abroad work in Italy.
